A Roller Guard update after a year:
It's time to drop down and let you all know how this has been going. It's been a mess and the dust has finally settled, and it doesn't make me upset to talk about it right now.
Some of you know the specific details, some of you don't. The tldr is that there's been a huge IP conflict, creative direction issues, and all around massive social fallout on top of back-to-back health and life tragedies. My publishing team settled on an ongoing dispute, and Roller Guard will be taking a different marketing direction from here on out.
The good news: Roller Guard merch will be released in full force for 2018. New prints, standees, stickers, charms, and all sorts of exclusives across Project Sleeve. All your favorite characters will be given new life as a diverse merchandise brand through both me and Project Sleeve. It was determined that this route in marketing is much better than the one we were on, and will help establish much better comic funding options in the future as well as building much better hype for the potential of a comic.
But Kerrts, you may be asking, "Potential of a comic" has some implications! And you're probably right on target. :/
The bad news is the comic will be on indefinite hiatus for at least a year. Instead of killing myself on a comic or the lack of motivation to work on it entirely, I determined I would be better off moving to a more "Hello Kitty" approach to my brand and trademark. I will be building the brand up over time with character development and merchandise as a way of saying "Sorry I let this one slip" to all of those who have been loyal and patient with the process. Your girlies are still the same magical alien ass-kicking derby bitches they have been, but instead of focusing on their backstory medium, you'll be able to connect with them through short summary and character development over time until I'm ready to get back into the comic again.
I feel like I need to apologize for not being clearer on this one, but paired with divorce, multiple life-threatening surgical procedures, and severe abuse problems within my family, it was very hard to find the right time to discuss it. 2016 was a goddamn trainwreck for all of us and 2017 is the same shit but with a mask on. My kids came first, and I decided to wait until I knew for sure what direction I was going in and had a solid strategy and future plan.
Thank you for everything. Thank you for your support and patience. The comic will happen, just not right now. For now, I'm going to make you some of the most kick ass and adorable merch you've ever seen for 2018, and I hope you all like it.
A big thanks to my sponsors at Gamers HQ, Capital City Crushers, and Astrokitty At GameNut. Thank you for your support, and I'll be forwarding you guys some neat shit on the regular in the upcoming months.
